📚 STORY OF THE DAY

Silent Wings, Shared Skies

In the quiet hours of a Sunday morning, the air was gentle, and the world seemed to breathe at a tranquil pace. I found myself at the local train station, the kind with old wooden benches and the faint smell of coffee from the tiny café at the end of the platform.

There was an elderly gentleman there, a regular by the looks of it, with a ritual as precise as the train schedule. He held an old, weathered book, its edges curled from time and touch. His eyes, however, didn't scan the worn pages today. Instead, they watched the tracks with a soft intensity.

A young family bustled onto the platform, disrupting the silence. Two children, one clutching a toy airplane, the other a stuffed giraffe, raced around their patient parents. The older man's eyes followed the airplane as it swooped through the air, landing in his vicinity.

The boy, hesitant at first, approached the man to retrieve his toy. The old man handed it back with a gentle smile, and his eyes locked with the child's in a silent exchange of camaraderie.

The children soon grew bored of their games, and the family settled on a bench nearby. The little girl with the giraffe snuggled up to her mother, her energy spent. The boy, inquisitive and uncontained, wandered back to the old man.

Curiosity bridged the gap between the generations, and a conversation sparked. The man's voice, rarely used, unfolded a story of a younger self, an adventurer who once piloted planes across vast oceans and under the gaze of countless stars.

Every Sunday, he explained, was a tribute to his wife who had shared his love for the skies. She was the voice on the radio guiding him home, the hands that packed his parachute, the heart that beat with his in every flight. The book was her journal, filled with dreams they'd lived and those left unfulfilled.

The train’s arrival interrupted their exchange. The boy rejoined his family, but as the train pulled away, he pressed his face to the window, waving to the pilot who never left the ground. The old man waved back, his loneliness eased by the brief but meaningful connection, a reminder that life's journeys are etched not in the miles traveled but in the souls we touch along the way.

On my own journey, I carried more than the day's agenda; I carried the understanding that our stories are more than just our own—they’re a beacon for others in ways we might never fully know.

🤣 BAD JOKE OF THE DAY

I asked a contractor, "how much does a roof cost?"

He replied, "Nothing! It's on the house." 😂
